When I do something I know I shouldn’t, harmony disappears.
It could be about behavior. I know I shouldn’t eat unhealthy food because I value a healthy lifestyle. Smokers often feel this discomfort because they want to quit but still smoke. The same applies to people in destructive relationships or those working in toxic environments.
For me, the discomfort can sometimes be professional. As a consultant working with various organizations, I have strong values regarding my work. What happens when my values clash with those of a client? Of course, some compromises are necessary, but when the clash disrupts my personal harmony, it’s time to act.
Listening to yourself is essential. Companies have core values for a reason. If an employee’s values conflict with the organization’s, it might be time to reconsider their role there.
As a consultant, I am “for sale,” but my values and integrity are not. How important are your values and integrity to you?
Whether the conflict is personal, relational, or professional, we must listen inward. True harmony is achieved only when we live in alignment with our core values.
Have a brilliant day!
